Directbanc.com Presents, How to Increase your Credit Score, by Aubrey Clark.
This credit manual will forever be a work in progress due to the fact that credit scoring criteria changes quite often. I suggest that you bookmark this page (control+D) so that you can return to this page as we will update this page regularly. I will continually add and remove information from this credit manual as needed, but all new pages and updates will be reflected on this page.
As a disclaimer, all information contained in this credit manual is believed to be true, however, due to the dynamic nature of the credit market we offer this advice without warranty. The information, ideas and theories are examples and may or may not be applicable to your specific credit repair situation.
We, will from time to time give you links to certain services or websites that may or may not compensate us for referring you as a customer. Their compensation has no bearing on our recommendations. We simply felt that if we were already recommending to our visitors to reputable businesses, why not make a buck for doing so?
If you have questions, comments or concerns, please respond in the comments section below each post and we will do our best to address your questions and concerns. Do not post personal information about your self. This includes:
- Social security numbers
- Specific Creditor Accounts
- Account Numbers
- Addresses and Phone numbers
One final disclaimer, I am a marketing and finance major. Grammar and punctuation is, by no means, are my strong point. While using this credit repair manual, if (when) you see glaring grammatical errors, please notate them in the comment section below the page and I will happily correct it.
This being said, Let’s begin to increase your credit scores. The first thing I want to do is to give you a list of the things you should have in hand while attempting to repair your credit. Repairing your credit requires patience and organization. I recommend that you set up your own “credit repair kit” and have it handy for when you are working on improving your credit scores.
Repairing your credit is all about organization, write down every person, every date and even every time you speak with someone concerning your credit. This includes collection agents, credit bureaus and current creditors. Especially note the time and day that you receive phone calls from collection agents. When corresponding by mail, always send mail certified. This will cost about $3.00 per transaction, but it’s well worth the price if you have to go to battle with someone.
As your credit scores increase you will spend less time with the tasks of credit repair. However, you will almost always have an occasion to return to your credit repair kit to address old issues on your credit report that re-appear as a result of collection agencies bundling and selling their uncollected debts.
Recommended Credit Repair Kit:
- A dedicated notebook and pen, I recommend a loose leaf or 5 subject folder.
- A tri-merge, or 3 in 1 credit report that contains all three credit bureaus. This gives you the ability to compare each bureau side by side in one easy report. You can
Purchase One Here, or you can
You can Order a Free Credit Report Here. The paid version is simply easier to read, contains scores and is easier to use as a “worksheet” throughout the credit repair process.
Credit Report FAQ’s - Stamps, envelopes, almost everything you do should be done through certified mail.
- Addresses of the three major credit repositories.
You can Find Them Here - Copy of your “list of creditors”. This is supplied (
Paid Copy) with your credit bureau. This is a list of all of the companies and their addresses, that are reporting information about you. - Caller ID, not really an item to keep in a kit, but worth mentioning. You should keep your kit near the telephone caller id so that you can record the times, dates and phone numbers of all calls that you make.
- Credit repair letters, again, not something to keep in a kit, but you will most likely need some
Professionally Prepared Credit Repair Letters. - A copy of the Fair Debt collection Practices Act
Print or Save it Here - A copy of the Fair Credit Reporting Act –

If you are serious about repairing your credit you must have a starting point, a base line to measure from.
A copy of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. – Print or save it Here
Even though 3/4 of this document is legal fluff, it is law and credit bureaus MUST abide by it.
A copy of the Fair Debt collection Practices Act- Print or save it Here
Collection agents violate this Act regularly, knowing the rules levels the playing field.
A dedicated note book/ note pad to take notes on.
This is IMPORTANT, take notes, date, time, person, agency EVERY time you have contact with ANYONE from the credit bureaus or the collection agencies.
