If you have a low credit score, chances are good you find getting a new line of credit hard to do. It is something that many people struggle with, getting credit when they have a low credit score as it is. However, it can be one of the most important things to do to rebuild your financial future.
Low Credit Score – Why Not Go Without?
Although it is possible to live without credit, many things hinge on credit. Employers check your credit to make sure you are trustworthy. Your insurance company checks your credit to find out how much of a risk you really are. The fact is, credit is valuable and it can help you to achieve all of your financial goals. But, if your credit score is nothing you are proud to talk about, there are reasons to work on rebuilding it.
Here are some reasons that should have you focused on using your credit card, or at least getting a new one.
- Some credit card companies, including Capital One, now offer credit cards to customers with fair and average credit that offer cash back benefits. That means you get something back without having to do anything to get it.
- Credit cards come with a level of safety that cash does not have. In short, if you lose cash, anyone can pick it up and spend it. However, if you report your card missing or stolen, the lender will stop charges and you will not be held responsible for those costs. That’s a level of protection you can benefit from.
- Do take advantage of the grace period. This is a length of time you make payments to pay off or minimize your balance before finance charges hit the account. This way, you are getting a free loan and a way to manage your money in one place. Use this account to make purchases throughout the month. Then, pay it off all at once during the grace period. You don’t pay finance charges but you do get a great way to manage your money.
If your credit score is not what it used to be, or you just need some time to get caught up, consider applying for a new credit card. The good news is that rebuilding your credit is not as hard as you may think, especially if you consider the long term benefits like being able to take advantage of bigger cash back bonuses, discounted air travel, free luxury stays in hotels and even premium insurance for when you travel. No matter how low your score is now, there are really reasons to start working on bringing it up using credit cards meant for those who may need a little boost in the right direction.
