How to Spot the Scammers
Everyday, companies target consumers who have poor credit histories with promises to clean up their credit report so they can get a car loan, a home mortgage, insurance, or even a job once they pay them a fee for the service.
The truth is, these companies can’t deliver an improved credit report for you using the tactics they promote. It’s illegal: No one can remove accurate negative information from your credit report.
So after you pay them hundreds or thousands of dollars in fees, you’re left with the same credit report and someone else has your money.
If you see a credit repair offer, here’s how to tell if the company behind it is up to no good:
The company wants you to pay for credit repair services before they provide any services. Under the Credit Repair Organizations Act, credit repair companies cannot require you to pay until they have completed the services they have promised.
The company doesn't’t tell you your rights and what you can do for yourself for free.
The company recommends that you do not contact any of the three major national credit reporting companies directly.
The company tells you they can get rid of most or all the negative credit information in your credit report, even if that information is accurate and current.
The company suggests that you try to invent a “new” credit identity — and then, a new credit report — by applying for an Employer Identification Number to use instead of your Social Security number.
The company advises you to dispute all the information in your credit report, regardless of its accuracy or timeliness.
If you follow illegal advice and commit fraud, you may find yourself in legal hot water, too: It’s a federal crime to lie on a loan or credit application, to misrepresent your Social Security number, and to obtain an Employer Identification Number from the Internal Revenue Service under false pretenses.
You could be charged and prosecuted for mail or wire fraud if you use the mail, telephone, or Internet to apply for credit and provide false information.

What to Look for if You Hire a Credit Repair Company
Credit repair organizations must give you a copy of the “Consumer Credit File Rights Under State and Federal Law” before you sign a contract. They also must give you a written contract that spells out your rights and obligations.
Read these documents before you sign anything. And before signing, know that a credit repair company cannot:
make false claims about their services
charge you until they have completed the promised services
perform any services until they have your signature on a written contract and have completed a three-day waiting period. During this time, you can cancel the contract without paying any fees.
Before you sign a contract, be sure it specifies:
the payment terms for services, including the total cost
a detailed description of the services the company will perform
how long it will take to achieve the result
any guarantees the company offer
the company’s name and business address

The 5 Biggest Lies in Credit Repair
 |
Fast Credit Repair in 30 Days |
| Credit repair can be fast or slow depending on each person's individual credit situation. An overwhelming majority of credit repair campaigns are long and tedious. When a company to advertises "Fast Credit Repair" they are talking about the 5% - 10% that this applies to. That makes them a liar in my book, disingenuous at best. |
 |
I Can Repair Your Credit Without Having to Repay Anyone |
| If your goal is to clean up your credit without having to make any sort of restitution to the people that you owe money to, you can stop reading now. Credit repair involves "making amends", this doesn't mean you will have to pay back every debt, or even the full amount. However, you will have to pay some, part or even all of your debts during the process. |

"Magic" Credit Repair Software |
| No program can get you any closer to good credit than this tutorial and a pencil and paper can. We will show you what you need to do to repair your credit step by step. If you have unanswered questions at any time simply post them in our blog and I will answer them. |

I Can Erase Your Credit and You Can Start Over |
| Can you really get your credit erased? Absolutely! This practice, is called “file segregation,” and it's illegal, and it doesn’t work because you almost always get caught. Unless you are interested in free room and a roommate named Bubba, I would avoid people who say they can do this for you. |
 |
I Can Remove Your Bankruptcy |
| Lies, lies and more lies. Bankruptcies stay on your credit for 10 years from the discharge date. However, you can have them removed after seven years by writing to the credit repositories and asking them to do so. |
All in all, most companies that want to repair your credit are not crooks in so much that they are out to rip you off and steal your identity. However, a good percentage of them over-hype what they are doing for you to make it sound more beneficial than it really is.
Credit repair companies can't do ANYTHING that you can't do yourself with the proper guidance. Credit repair companies tend to insinuate that they have the "magic connection" that allows them to do something that you cant do, which isn't true. This makes them liars in my book.
